15 Ideas for Back-to-School
School is back in session for many kids or will be after Labor Day, so it’s time to get into a back-to-school ritual. A structured schedule for children is a must. Children accomplish more in an environment that is structured and consistent.
Below is my list of 15 ideas for going back-to-school:
- Be sure your child is getting 8-12 hours of sleep every night (see chart below).
- Your child should eat a healthy breakfast before leaving for school.
- Be sure your child has a nutritious lunch.
- Have an organized morning routine.
- If allowed, send a healthy snack into school with your child.
- Set up a time for homework and try to stick with that time.
- Do not put off homework until the last minute or right before bed.
- Allow your child some down time between school and homework.
- Be sure your child is physically active during the day or after school.
- Your child should be reading on a daily basis
- Your child should be seeing you or another adult reading.
- Attend open house and parent-teacher conferences.
- Keep up on school notes.
- Communicate with the teacher.
- Volunteer in the classroom or school when possible.
Do you have any ideas that should be added to my list?
I feel like these rules could apply to me too, lol! I NEVER get enough sleep.
I feel like I need to print out this list. And, that sleep chart is very helpful. I wish I would’ve had it when my son was younger.
You can print or pin.
Love these suggestions! I am a teacher and I can always tell when kids have gotten their 8-12 hours of sleep. It makes the day go so much smoother. Now, if I could just get myself 8hrs every night…
Wishing you a great first few weeks back to school.
With three small children, I’m always concerned with their amount of sleep. Thanks for the guidelines!
Nice List – our sleep schedule is pretty much right on with this list already. Yippy. 🙂
Good job, mom!
I put my daughter to bed at 8pm. It’s just the right time before she goes to school.
If only I can do and implement all of these ideas to my kids, life as a parent will become way better. Putting them to sleep before 9PM is a struggle.
