Summer is officially here on June 20 and most kids are out of school. Soon you will be hearing, “I’m bored.” It’s easy to fall into the trap of allowing your children to watch television or play on electronic devices, but I’d like to give you some other options for inspiring creativity.

20 FREE Summer Activities that Inspire Creativity:
  1. Have a picnic in your backyard or local park
  2. Go for a nature walk or hike
  3. Visit a local park or playground
  4. Go to your local library
  5. Discover free library programs
  6. Take part in a reading program (check your library)
  7. Go swimming at a local pool, beach, or friend’s house
  8. Go fishing
  9. Ride bikes
  10. Plant and care for vegetable plants or flowers
  11. Play a board game or card game
  12. Play outdoor games like tag, hide & seek, soccer, or bean bag toss
  13. Make a house or fort out of appliance boxes (ask your local appliance store)
  14. Build with Legos or blocks
  15. Pretend play/dramatic play
  16. Play with playdough
  17. Make slime
  18. Color, draw, or paint
  19. Cook and bake together
  20. Write about summer activities in a journal
