5 Simple Ways to Brighten Someone’s Day

In this day and age, brightening someone’s day is so important! It doesn’t take much to make or change someone’s day. As Mahatma Gandi said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

5 Simple Ways to Brighten Someone’s Day:

  1. Give someone a compliment – compliment their physical appearance or their inner beauty.
  2. Send a few encouraging words – text, Facebook message, leave a note, send a card.
  3. Smile – spend the day smiling at everyone you see.
  4. Show kindness – open the door for someone, put change in an expired meter, let someone go in front of you in line, talk to a stranger at the grocery store, give a generous tip.
  5. Genuinely listen – ask about your spouse’s day and listen intently, let someone tell you about their problems, look people in the eye, put away electronics, let them talk until they are done.

What is something simple you would add to this list?

  • Good list. Giving someone a compliment is definitely one – my day is always brighter when someone compliments me, usually on my earrings or maybe shoes :).

  • Great list! This makes me think of Random Acts of Kindness, which I try hard to do with my class. It’s so important that we instill these ideas (like giving compliments or holding doors open) in children.

Do what ever it is that my six year old does.
He always waves at people. He says hello to EVERYONE.
He compliments them on whatever he feels appropriate. (Sometimes, I don’t think it would be appropriate, but he gets away with it. He is sincere. )
He also says, “I’m sorry.” and “Thank you.” Sometimes we get a “Please.”
