Float Away the Stress at True Rest Float Spa

Spread the love

Taking care of ourselves and reducing stress is so important to every aspect of our health. My favorite forms of stress relief are meditation, prayer, exercising, massage, and listening to music. But, recently I discovered a new favorite form of relaxation and after one try, I’m hooked!

Disclosure: I was given one hour of float time in return for this review. All opinions are my own.

Benefits of Float Therapy

Some blogger friends and I were given the opportunity to float away the stress at True Rest Float Spa in Farmington, MI. Float therapy is an up-and-coming tool for wellness, relaxation, pain relief, and better sleep. There are many physical and mental health benefits of floating. These include:

  • Increased blood circulation
  • Increased healing
  • Pain management
  • Increased immune system functioning
  • Stress reduction
  • Increased creativity
  • Increased reaction time
  • Better sleep

What’s even better is that more abstract mental issues, such as depression, psychological issues, even PTSD, have been shown to be alleviated by float therapy. For this reason, the location in Farmington offers FREE floats to active and retired military on the 11th of each month. If you fit this category, call to make your appointment or book online.

 My Experience

As I said above, I enjoy an occasional massage as a form of relaxation. Lying on a massage table with the lights dimmed and soft music playing is relaxing in itself. As the therapist works the knots and tension out of my body, I begin to relax. The issue with a massage is that after a few hours, I begin to feel all those areas that were intensely worked on (the knots). Instead of feeling good, I often feel sore. This is not the case with float therapy. Float therapy has all the same benefits without the possible pain both during and after a massage.

My first experience at True Rest Float Spa was amazing from the moment I walked in the door. The smell of essential oils diffusing immediately calmed me. I was greeted by a very pleasant receptionist who had me fill out a short “first time” form on an iPad. Next, I sat in a very comfy reclining chair to watch a 6 minute video about float therapy and True Rest Spas.

I was then introduced to the rest of the spa which was very inviting in every area. I was seriously impressed with all the detail that went into every nook and cranny of the spa. True Rest Farmington has everything you need (and more) including hot tea, detox water, towels, ear plugs, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryers, hair products, lotion, and more. The only thing you need to bring with you is a brush or comb.

The Float

A shower is required before getting into the float pod. Each suite (there are 6 in Farmington) has its own beautiful shower equipped with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a towel. Next, you step into your own private pod which has just 10 inches of water. You are encouraged to float nude, but you could also wear a bathing suit. Just remember there is a lot of salt in the water – 1000 pounds of Epsom salt in each pod, so your suit might retain some of the salt. Float time is 60 minutes with 10 minutes of relaxing music at the beginning and end. The buoyancy of the water will effortlessly support you but there are a couple different head rests to support your head.

You can leave your pod lid open or close it to any degree. I liked having my lid closed completely. There is a light feature inside each pod that can be left on or turned off. The controls for the music, light, and intercom are located within the pod so you can vary your experience and call for assistance, if needed. The pods are plenty roomy to allow for various positions and stretching. I felt most relaxed with my arms above my head.

A shower is necessary to clean off the salt from your body and hair. The shower was a relaxing experience in itself…perfect water pressure, great smelling shampoo, and beautiful tiles. But that also came to an end, so I got dressed and visited the prep room where they have the hair dryers, hair products, and other goodies.

Before heading home, it’s nice to take a few minutes to relax in one of the comfortable seating areas and enjoy some water or tea. The only issue is you may not want to leave – I was awfully tempted to call Uber!

If you are looking for an experience unlike none other, I highly recommend True Rest Float Spa of Farmington. The prices are very reasonable and package deals are available. Check out their website for more information.
