TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR), a Michigan-based family-owned restaurant group with an expansive portfolio of casual, quick service and family dining restaurants throughout the state, will celebrate the grand opening of its newest Michigan MOD Pizza restaurant in Canton on Monday, February 20 with an all-day “Pay What You Want” fundraiser. The new Canton restaurant opened to the public on January 20, 2017 and is located at 41865 Ford Road.
The “Pay What You Want” event begins at 10:30 a.m. and runs through dinner service. Guests can pay an amount of their choosing for their meal, with all proceeds benefiting the Plymouth Canton Educational Excellence Foundation to aid the organization in its mission to help students achieve their highest potential through strong community partnerships that enhance the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools educational experience.
Based in Seattle, MOD’s individual artisan-style pizzas are made on demand, using fresh-pressed dough and signature sauces, including MOD red sauce and MOD white sauce. As the company that launched the fast-casual pizza niche, guests can create their own pizzas and salads, using any combination of more than 30 fresh-featured toppings, or they can choose from a menu of MOD classics. Each pizza is hand-cooked in an 800 degree oven in five minutes or less and salads are hand-tossed in front of the customer. MOD also serves local draft beers, wine, handspun milkshakes, and house-made lemonades and iced teas.
In late 2014, TSFR announced its plans to launch 25 MOD Pizza locations in Michigan over the next five years. Since then, TSFR has opened its first seven MOD Pizza locations Livonia, Northville, Rochester Hills, Woodhaven, Brighton, Canton and Chesterfield, with another location underway in Shelby Township. A pioneer of the fast casual pizza segment, MOD Pizza was founded in Seattle in 2008 by entrepreneurs Scott and Ally Svenson. MOD’s individual artisan-style pizzas and salads are made on demand, letting customers choose whatever they like from over 30 toppings, all for one set price. My most recent visit to MOD was on Monday (1/30/17) when I visited the brand new location in Canton with a group of friends. MOD pizza provides a unique experience each time you go because no two pizzas are exactly the same. As stated above, for one set price you can choose all the toppings you’d like on your pizza or salad. Or if you prefer, you can choose one of their pre-made recipes. MOD pizza even has gluten-free crust for an additional $2 charge.
The Canton location is conveniently located on Ford Road near IKEA. The first thing I noticed was the enthusiasm and friendliness of the staff. When each person walked in the door, the staff members all called out, “Welcome to MOD”. They also yelled, “thank you” as each person left. Everyone seemed to be pleased by both greetings and this is just one thing that makes people want to come back!
MOD reminds me of a Subway restaurant because you walk down the line and tell the employees exactly what toppings you’d like on your pizza. For this pizza, I decided on Mozzarella and Asiago cheese, pepperoni, spicy sausage, fresh mushrooms, bacon, mixed mild peppers, and pesto. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the pesto, so I had it put on just half. Come to find out, I loved it!!
One of my favorite things at MOD, besides the pizza, is their hand spun shakes. You can choose from chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry. For a limited time they are offering peppermint. I choose a chocolate shake with peppermint and it was delicious! I definitely recommend splurging on a shake when you visit.
