Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse Troy

Fogo de Chão (pronounced fo-go dee shown), an upscale Brazilian steakhouse, is ready to open its doors for lunch and dinner on November 6. Located just minutes from the Somerset Collection shopping center, this is Fogo de Chao’s first location in Michigan. The internationally renowned steakhouse debuted nearly 40 years ago in Southern Brazil.

My husband and I were invited to a VIP dinner of the authentic dining experience. The Fogo de Chao experience is definitely unique and we enjoyed every minute of it. In fact, we felt like royalty from the moment we drove up to the end of the evening.

Fogo de Chão honors the Brazilian gaucho tradition of churrasco, the art of roasting meat over an open fire, and espeto corrido, or continuous tableside service. The two-level restaurant features a panoramic view of the grill where its team of Brazilian-trained gaucho chefs prepare and cook the meats.

There are many dining options available at Fogo de Chão, but I highly suggest experiencing the Full Churrasco meal option which includes the Market Table & Feijoada Bar. This option includes all premium and classic cuts of meat, plus seasonal salads, imported charcuterie and cheeses, fresh vegetables, Feijoada (traditional black bean stew) and family-style service of Brazilian side dishes. Below is a picture of the Market Table with all the colorful tasty options.

The wide variety of food at the Market Table and Feijoada Bar can provide a meal in itself, but be careful not to overeat because the real experience begins when the chefs begin delivering and carving the wide variety of fire-roasted meats (beef, chicken, lamb, and pork) right at your table.

All the meats were perfectly seasoned and cooked to your choice of perfection (rare, medium, well done). The varieties were almost endless, in fact, I had difficulty keeping track of which was which. But one thing was for sure, I didn’t try any meat I didn’t like. Some of my favorites were the bacon wrapped chicken and beef, the prime rib, and the beef pictured below with the darkened edges.

Fogo de Chão Troy also features an award-winning wine list and extensive craft cocktail menu that highlights Brazil’s national drink, the Caipirinha. This drink was amazing! It tasted a lot like a lime margarita except it was much more potent. Loaded with vodka, sugar, and fresh lime, this drink is worth the splurge.

Of course, Fogo also offers a tempting dessert menu. From key lime pie to Creme Brulee, there is something for every sweet tooth. My husband is a cheesecake fanatic so he chose the cheesecake with strawberry sauce. I am a chocolate lover so I chose the Molten Chocolate Lava cake, which oozed warm gooey chocolate and was served with a side of ice cream.

If you are looking for a dining experience unlike any other, I highly suggest Fogo De Chao. For more information about the restaurant, please visit their website.

The lava cake is the one dessert we didn’t order and now I regret it LOL. This place is five minutes from my house so I’m hoping to go back soon, even if it’s just for happy hour deals.

  • I’ve been wanting to try Texas de Brazil downtown, but it’s a bit of a hike for us. I’m glad to see a similar restaurant in Troy, which is much more doable. The food looks wonderful!
