Halloween will be here before we know it and some Halloween activities take place in September! I’ve teamed up with four other writers to bring you this comprehensive list of Halloween activities in the Metro Detroit Area. Please be sure to click on the title of the events for more information. Romulus DDA Pumpkin Festival (Romulus)

  • Description: The annual Pumpkin Festival is a 3 day event that starts on the third Friday in September. The festival begins with a night parade where everything is lighted from bicycles to cement trucks. Thousands of people line Goddard Road to wait for the fun. The street festival offers wonderful music, food, crafts and games for all ages. You can enter a pumpkin rolling, pumpkin pie eating or a pumpkin seed-spitting contest. Visit or enter the Classic Car Show, our classic Tractor Show or just relax and listen to music. The festival is a celebration of friends and family; a harvest celebration that generates enthusiastic spirit and regenerates our sense of Community.

Redford Township Oktoberfest (Redford)

Skeletons are Alive Launch Party (Northville)

  • Description: 2019 “Skeletons Are Alive!” will feature an unveiling of 8-10 new skeletons, as well as the return of many of the classic skeleton characters. Celebrate October with festive fun and activities, and more than 120 skeletons located along the streets of Downtown Northville until October 31! Skeleton festivities will be held on the First Friday, October 6, from 5:00-9:00 pm in Town Square and will include performances by a local dance company, food trucks, street performers and live music.

Boo Bash (Trenton)

  • Description: Kick off the Halloween season with a fun-filled day of fab foods, activities, face painting, pony rides, spectacular bonfire, scavenger hunt and more! This family friendly event is great for all ages. There will be a special Halloween themed Magic Show performed by the very own John Russell from 3-4 p.m. Bear Claw Coffee truck will also be on-site selling delicious beverages sure to keep you warm in the crisp autumn air!
Wilson Barn Pumpkin Fest (Livonia)

  • Description: Don’t miss Pumpkin Fest at The Wilson Barn, 29350 West Chicago Street and Middle Belt Road. The fall event runs October 1 – 30 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (every day weather permitting) Daily activities include: pumpkin, gourd and cornstalk sales; pony and hayrides from noon to 7 p.m. Special activities on both weekdays and weekends.

Harvest Day at Ford House (Grosse Pointe Shores)

October 5

  • Description: Kick off autumn with Harvest Day at Ford House, an afternoon of outdoor fun. Blake’s Cider Mill will have a stand selling their cider and donuts, plus enjoy free family fun, including old-school lawn games, a petting zoo, horse and pony rides, face painting, a giant leaf pile and plenty of photo opps. Stroll through a mini fall market, with local farmers offering their harvest best: pumpkins, apples, fall bouquets and more. For the grownups, Blake’s will bring samples of their hard cider, beer and wine, which will also be available for purchase. Visit the Detroit Abloom stand for fresh cut organic flowers, and the Green Toe Gardens stand for local honey. Guests can also peek inside the historic house of Edsel and Eleanor Ford, strolling the first floor for free (tours are first-come, first-served, and space is limited). When you need a pick-me-up, stop by the Seeburger’s Cheeseburgers tent to purchase burgers, hot dogs, fries and brats for the family. Bring a picnic blanket and relax on the estate lawn. For any Ford House membership bought during Harvest Day, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Forgotten Harvest. Entry for Harvest Day is just $15 per vehicle. Halloween Forest Fun Hike (Westland) 

October 12

  • Times: Register for one start time: 5:30 pm, 6 pm, 6:30 pm, 7:00 pm, or 7:30 pm. The program is 1½ – 2 hours long
  • Cost: $6 per child and $2 per adult for Wayne County residents
  • Description: This outdoor hike, featuring silly nature characters is recommended for children four and older. The hike lasts about 45 minutes and is followed by an indoor live animal show. Feel free to wear costumes but please remember this is an indoor and outdoor event. The hike will be moved indoors if there is heavy rain expected.

Halloween Hysteria (Northville)

Trick or Treat Trail (Northville)

  • Description: Get ready for a spooky, frightful, family friendly, delightful event! Enjoy a trick or treat trail, crafts, entertainment, and a Haunted Hallway! Advance ticket sales are sold by specific event time. Please arrive at the event entrance a few minutes before your scheduled time to check in. Recommend everyone wear costumes & bring a treat bag. Event for grades pre-school – 3rd grade.

3rd Annual Mall-O-Ween Spooktacular (Westland)

October 19

  • Description: Enjoy the trick-or-treat trail filled with goodies, ghouls, and goblins and then head over to the East Court for a variety of kid-friendly activities, including: Four inflatables; face painters, balloon twisters, and airbrush tattoo artists; a photo booth (with a free 4×6 photo); a craft table; games; DJ; roving entertainment; and more! The event is free and open to the public! Children 12 and under are welcome to dress in costume.

Streets of Treats Family Halloween Event (Northville) 

October 26

  • Description: Kids and parents are invited to welcome the Tooth Fairy from Preservation Dental into town with a ceremonial wave to kick off the Downtown Trick or Treating at 10 am in Town Square. Following the wave participants will start trick or treating at the downtown businesses and treat stations along the route till 11:30 am. Enjoy the skeleton sculptures placed around the downtown while enjoying a fun, family friendly Halloween activity in charming downtown Northville.
    The event is free, through the generosity of sponsors Tom Holzer Ford, the Northville DDA and others.

City Hall Artspace residents will be hosting Halloween Haunted Hall Party from 4pm to 7pm with a Spooky Park Story Time in the City Hall Park from 7pm – 8pm. City Hall Artspace Lofts residents will have several activities for all the trick-or-treaters.

Little Goblins’ Night Out (Ford House, Grosse Pointe Shores)

  • Description: Two nights of spooky, kid-friendly fun at the Ford House estate. Bring your little goblins in costume to walk the grounds and meet a mash-up of not-too-scary classic Halloween characters. Wee witches and wizards can also jump in the giant leaf pile, take a hayride, and mix in a little learning with fun hands-on activities. The night is topped off with apples, cider and donuts for all. Bags are supplied to collect Halloween treats and surprises. Guests can snap a selfie with their costumed kiddos among the fall splendor of the Ford House estate. Get your costume for Halloween ready to go and come out for a great day. There will be a parking lot full of elaborately decorated cars packed with candy and goodies. Stop by the photo booth to get your picture taken. Grab a cookie and take a bounce on the inflatable. Bring your family by and have some fun with us. Prizes will be given out every 30 minutes!
