Lake Erie Metropark - Huron-Clinton Metroparks

During this time of COVID19 Quarantine, hubby and I have been social distancing by visiting our local Huron-Clinton Metroparks. This week we visited Lake Erie Metropark in Brownstown, MI. This 1,067-acre park is captivated by three miles of Lake Erie shoreline and over three miles of walking trails. For bird lovers, this park houses more than 300 species of birds and it is designated as one of the premier hawk-watching sites in North America.

Explore the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Downriver/Lake Erie shore region through exhibits and interpretive programs at the Marshlands Museum and Nature Center. The history of waterfowl hunting is brought to life with artifacts and photos featuring all phases from boats to decoys. Outside the museum you will find Luc, a bald eagle, who has been housed at the park since July 2009. Luc suffered a number of injuries including an impaired right wing and blind left eye which left him non-releasable.

The park includes:
  • A 18-hole regulation golf course
  • The “Great Wave” swimming pool
  • A spray park
  • Marshlands Museum and Nature Center
  • Boat launches and a marina
  • Picnic areas
  • Shelter rentals
  • Nature trails (about 3 miles)
  • Two children’s play areas with slides, mini-rock wall, and swings
  • A softball diamond, basketball, and volleyball courts

Dave and I really enjoyed this park for the variety of activities offered, the numerous hiking trails, the wildlife, and the scenic views of the Detroit River, Lake Erie, Sugar Island, Grosse Ile, and Celeron Island. We will definitely visit again and we look forward to the museum when it’s open.

Nice pictures! I’ve never heard of this park but I just sent your post to my boyfriend, because he lives in Brownstown and has been looking to get some fresh air and do some walking outside.

We go there all the time. Great park!

  • Looks like lots to do. I’m sure the kids would love to check out a wave pool once summer comes 🙂 Thanks for sharing. Take care of you and yours!
