A Simple Stressless Christmas

a simple stressless christmas

Christmas is approaching. It seems to come faster every year, but please don’t STRESS. Let’s leave the stress out of Christmas this year. Christmas should be a joyful time with family and friends. It was never meant to be for OVER spending, OVER stressing, and OVEReating (LOL).

For my family, we celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas. Of course, we decorate our homes, give gifts, and indulge in delicious food, but we don’t over do it. Please don’t fall into the trap of overspending and stressing…it’s not necessary for a joyous holiday. You will enjoy the holiday even more if you keep things simple!

Ways to keep Christmas simple:

  1. Set a budget and adhere to that limit
  2. Plan for gift giving – make a list people to gift and set a maximum amount for each gift
  3. Make handmade gifts or baked goods for gifts
  4. Adorn your house with decorations from last year, buy from thrift stores, or make your own decorations
  5. Buy groceries on sale and clip coupons
  6. Limit activities – Try not to commit to too many holiday gatherings
  7. Organize yourself – Avoid stress by planning ahead and staying organized
  8. Rethink habits – Give up something you’ve done in the past that isn’t necessary
  9. Enlist help – Ask those you are celebrating with to help with food
  10. Remind yourself of the reason for the season

Remember if you can reduce and relax, you will find yourself truly enjoying Christmas. Make fond memories with those you love, and remember the reason for the season.

  • I gave up on over doing it a few years after I had Faith. Faith was born exactly one week before Christmas. It makes the holidays a flurry of events. We usually go to Kalahari for her birthday which is a nice little escape. I always overeat during the holidays. 😉

  • Nice article and great list. I’ve reached a point in my life that I have really cut back on what I take on for the Holiday. It’s kind of a balancing act between still carrying on the important traditions and letting go of or paring down some of the others. It’s made the Holiday so much more enjoyable for me. Thanks for sharing.

  • This is so true, we do get caught up with over spending and giving our kids the best gifts and forget what the real reason is all about. Great post!

  • I think too often we get lost in the season and think that it needs to be more than it has to be. This post is a great reminder that we all need to center ourselves and just run with it. You give some great tips here, thanks so much!

  • I really needed to read this list today. I’ve doing some unnecessary stressing over the holiday this year.

#2 and #3 is what I love the most. Planning and setting budget for each and every gift is a must. I am also considering some handmade stuff for a more personal touch.

  • I love this! It’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of Christmas and forget what’s really important. We also celebrate the true reason of the season, Jesus’ birth. Thanks for the reminder…I’m going to try to not overdo it this year for sure! 🙂

  • People need to do more of what brings them joy 🙂 Homemade or baked gift

  • Homemade or baked gifts would stress me out! LOL I save and pick up cool gadgets all year to be ready for the holidays 🙂
