10 Reasons to Shop at Your Local Farmers Market
Farmers markets are found in just about every city, and if not, there’s sure to be one close by. Farmers markets vary in terms of size and activities offered, but one thing they all have in common is fresh fruits and veggies! The farmers market in our town of Canton takes place on Sunday mornings from 9-1 pm. Our market offers fresh produce, homemade goods, handmade crafts, live entertainment, and various children’s activities. When it comes to farmers markets, I can think of at least 10 reasons you should shop them:
- Freshly picked seasonal produce at its peak in flavor
- Fresh produce is full of antioxidants and nutrients
- Cheaper organic fruits and vegetables
- Know where your produce is grown
- Try different fruits and vegetables
- Enjoy more variety
- Support your local farmers and local economy
- Learn cooking tips and recipes
- Shop outside and get Vitamin D
- Connect with your community
Haven’t been to a farmers market yet this year? Find one nearby and check it out before summer gets away from you. And if you live near Detroit, I highly suggest visiting Eastern Market, which is a local market on steroids. Trust me…it won’t disappoint!
I need to re-visit Eastern Market! I’ve only been once. Royal Oak has a good one and Clawson’s is okay although a bit small.
We love to shop at farmers markets. I just wish the one in our city was larger.
Ours is a decent size.
I LOVE our Brighton MI farm market on Saturday mornings. It’s my favorite and I love checking out all the vendors each week.
I love going to the Farmer’s Market. I always find super tasty food, and enjoy being out in the sun.
I love Eastern Market! I really need to get to my local farmers’ market this summer. Grand Rapids has a great one, but I’m so not a morning person!
