5 THINGS TO DO IN METRO DETROIT OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND

For most Detroiters, Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer vacation. Some people like to travel during this last long weekend, while others enjoy a staycation right in their own backyards or at local events. If you are looking for some excitement over the weekend, you might want to check out one of these events.

5 things to do in Metro Detroit over Labor Day weekend:

1. Ford Arts, Beats & Eats (Royal Oak)

• Sept. 2-4: 11 am- 11 pm
• Sept.  5: 11 am -9:30 pm.
• This is the 19th year for Arts, Beats, & Eats. Presented by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort this event takes place in Downtown Royal Oak. The festival offers more than 200 performances on nine stages, a highly ranked Juried Fine Arts Show, and local restaurants with some of the finest cuisine in Metro-Detroit.

2. Michigan Renaissance Festival (Holly)

• August 20 – October 2: 11 am – 7 pm
• Take a time-travel adventure into the 16th century at the annual Michigan Renaissance Festival! Inside our turreted gates, visitors enjoy the sights and sounds of a 17-acre village, complete with building reproductions of Renaissance shops, taverns, and a magnificent castle. Continuous entertainment takes place on the streets and on 17 themed stages; featuring full-contact armored jousting, comedy and theater shows, music, games, people-powered rides and so much more! Fabulous food and more than 300 artisans displaying their gallery-quality work complete the experience!

3. Detroit Jazz Festival (Detroit)

• Saturday, Sept. 3 – 11:30 am to 11 pm
  Sunday, Sept. 4 – 11:30 am to 10 pm
  Monday, Sept. 5 – Noon to 8 pm
• Now in its 37th year, the festival takes place over several city blocks in downtown Detroit – from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius – with five stages and 100 acts over four days. It also offers educational activities for adults and children, fireworks, late-night jam sessions, rare opportunities to meet the artists and much more. And it’s all FREE.

4. Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair (Novi)

• Sept. 1-4: 10 am -10 pm
• Sept. 5: 10 am – 9 pm
• Livestock exhibits, agriculture and indoor vendor booths, entertainment tent, beer garden, outdoor vendors, midway, circus performances and more!

5. Michigan Peach Festival (Romeo)

• Sept. 1: 9 am – 7 pm
• Sept 2: 9 am – 11 pm
• Sept 3: 8 am – 11 pm
• Sept 4: 8 am – 11 pm
• Sept 5: 9 am – midnight
• The Romeo Peach Festival started back in 1931. It is the second oldest festival in the state.
• Every Labor Day weekend, Romeo hosts many events based around its prized crop, the peach. Events include parades, bed races, craft shows, and much much more.
