3 Weeks Until Guatemala
The excitement is really starting to build. Three weeks from today, September 25, we will touch down in Guatemala City, Guatemala. For those of you unfamiliar with Guatemala, it is part of Central America. It is one of the poorest countries in the World. Located near the equator it is very warm year around.
I traveled to Guatemala last year as part of a mission trip. Five years ago, Connection Church adopted a village called El Cruce. During those five years, volunteers from the church built a well, church, school, bathrooms, and playground. During their stay, they also taught vacation bible school to the children and women’s devotions. This year, we will be building a wall around the community center (school and bathrooms) and possibly up to three homes. And of course, we will be sharing the good news with the families.
I am especially excited this year because my husband is joining me. Just before the trip last year, we started sponsoring a boy from our village. His name is Emanuel and he is 8 years old. He lives with his mom, dad, two sisters, and grandparents in a shack of a home. The best news is that they will be getting a new concrete home and we will be there to help with the building and dedication of the new home. Below is a top view of what their new home should look like.
We will be in Guatemala just one week, but that week will be life changing. As I’ve said in previous posts, I went to bless these people, but it was ME who was blessed. The people of Guatemala are so grateful for every little thing! They are full of hugs, kisses, and gratitude for each and every one of us who touch their lives. Last year we were greeted at the village with banners and fireworks. I can’t wait to see what they have planned for us this year!
