Our Experience:Â Â
Last year, my husband and I attended Salute to America at Greenfield Village. This was our first time going to this event and we enjoyed it so much that we can’t wait to go again this year! Salute to America began 25 years ago and it continues to be a favorite Fourth of July event for many families.Â
Salute to America begins at 6 p.m. with pre-shows such as the fife and drum parade and music by 
the United States Army Field Band. Seating is not provided, so all attendees must bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. We choose to bring lawn chairs as they provide more comfort for us. Food is available for purchase, but you are also welcome to bring your own food into the village. Last year, we picked up submarine sandwiches to eat along with some other snacks and beverages. All coolers, bags, wagons, and strollers are checked at the front gate and alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Beer and wine are available for purchase inside the village.
The highlights of Salute to America include the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and the fireworks finale. There is a little downtime before the main event, so be prepared to talk with family and friends, eat dinner, walk around the village, play games or cards, people watch, or just relax. Once the DSO begins, you won’t want to miss the show!

Tickets:
Early ticket pricing ends June 18. There is also a coupon available for a free child (12 and under) admission with the purchase of an adult admission. This coupon is good for July 2 and 3. Â

Things to Remember:
- Bring a blanket or comfortable chairs for lawn seating.
- Remember your camera.Â
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed.Â
- Dress appropriately for the weather.Â
- Wear sunscreen and a hat (if preferred).Â
- You are welcome to bring wagons or strollers.Â
- Walking from the gate to the event is required (1/2 mile).
- Wear comfortable walking shoes.Â
- The event is held rain or shine
- Refunds and exchanges are not given.Â
Giveaway:
Enter to win 4 tickets to Salute to America. Winner may choose from the dates June 30-July 3. Tickets will be available at the Greenfield Village will call box office on the evening of the event. We’ve never been to the event inside the village but have watched the fireworks across the street. I’ve always wanted to go and really should go this year as my daughter is still age 11 and can get the discount.
