Rock the Detroit Riverfront with Andiamo Ristorante
Planning a night on the town in Detroit is fastly becoming a popular trend due to all the events, activities, and restaurants. The best part is some of the events are FREE!
One of my favorite free events is the Rockin’ the Riverfront concert series that takes place on the Detroit Riverfront in the GM Plaza. These Friday night concerts feature classic rock bands such as Uncle Kracker, Loverboy, Gin Blossoms, and Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe. Although there is only one concert left in the summer series, next year is sure to be even bigger and better!
On Friday night, Dave and I headed to Detroit for a night on the town! We were so excited to have dinner on the patio at the Andiamo Ristorante (which is located in the GMRENCEN). On busy evenings, it’s best to make a reservation for the restaurant. Reservations can be made online or by phone. We were slightly early for our 6 p.m. reservation, so we sat at the bar to take advantage of their happy hour specials. Happy Hour is offered Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. and includes six of their appetizers and 1/2 off cocktails, beer, and wine.
The bartender assisted me in choosing a sweet cocktail. She suggested one of their house specialities called Belle Isle Breeze which consists of Zaya Gran Reserva Aged Rum, Sugar Island Coconut Rum, pineapple juice, and Grenadine, topped with Gingerale. This was definitely my type of drink! In fact, I liked it so much I snuck in a second drink before happy hour ended.
After a couple of drinks, we headed for our reserved table on the patio. Our table had an amazing view of the Detroit River and the Rockin’ the Riverfront stage. During our dining experience, we were able to eat, relax, and take in the sights and sounds of the riverfront including the opening band for the concert.
We started our meal with an appetizer called Portabella al Forno, which was a marinated & char-grilled portabella mushroom with Andiamo zip sauce. Dave and I both loved this dish and would definitely order it again.
When it came to ordering our main entrees, we asked our waitress for suggestions. Dave choose her favorite dish that included a char-broiled 8 oz. filet mignon topped with a portabella mushroom, Italian potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and shrimp. I had a couple bites of his filet and we agreed that it was the best steak we had EVER tasted! So juicy, tender and full of flavor!
Andiamo makes all of their pastas in-house, so I really wanted to try a pasta dish. I choose the Ravioli alla Genovese stuffed with meat and topped with palmina sauce. It was good, but not nearly as impressive as the filet mignon.
Of course every great meal ends with dessert. Our waitress brought the sample platter of desserts to our table (talk about temptation). Choosing was easy for me because I am a chocolate lover! The chocolate covered cake filled with chocolate mousse, homemade whipped cream, and drizzled with raspberry sauce was absolutely delightful!! Worth every single calorie!
Dave choose the cheesecake with homemade whipped cream and raspberry sauce. It was also very delicious! We were pleased with our choices and the sweet treats topped our amazing dining experience at Andiamo.
After our savory meal, we headed across the street to the Rockin’ the Riverfront Stage to wait for Survivor to hit the stage. Although we had the perfect viewing spot from our table at the restaurant, we decided it was time to give our table to others who may have been waiting to dine. In less than five minutes, we were seated and ready for the show.
The headliner was Survivor – a popular 80’s band. With hit songs such as “Eye of the Tiger” and “High on You”, the crowd was hopping with excitement. If you are looking for a great time, I highly suggest dinner at one of the many GMRENCEN restaurants followed by a concert on the riverfront. From quick bites in the food court to dining in luxury, the GMRENCEN is sure to please your palate.

That food looks delicious. Glad you had fun
What a beautiful evening! Your dinner looks amazing.
That sounds like fun! I’ve been to that Andiamo location once, with coworkers, and it was tasty.
Hi, I was wondering where did you park at while there?
That’s a good question to ask and something I should have included. We parked in the structure on Renaissance drive. It was $20. There is a parking lot that is $10 after 5 pm. If you go to the Rockin the Riverfront website, it will tell you where it’s located. It’s credit card only.
Oh! I want that filet! Looks like a delicious dinner and a great night out 🙂
It was seriously so good!
I’m not a fan our Riverfront concerts but I sure LOVE Andiamo’s food. These photos look delicious. Now I think I need a date night out.
