Free Family-Friendly March Events

March is here which means spring is on its way! March 20 marks the first day of spring and I know most of us are ready after this winter! There are lots of free family-friendly events throughout Metro Detroit this March. If know of other free events, please comment below. 

FREE Family-Friendly March Events

March – Goodrich Quality Theaters Free Movie (GQT) – Friday-Sunday at 10 a.m. No charge for those with their FREE rewards program card.

March 1 – Cranbrook Institute of Science (Bloomfield Hills)-  Free admission after 5 p.m. courtesy of the MASCO Corporation Foundation.

March 2 – Family Fun Fair (Trenton) – Trenton Rotary’s Turn off the Violence family fun fair, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Westfield Center; a great day of family fun, games and FREE food, all compliments of Trenton Rotary, Trenton organizations and businesses. This event aims to help strengthen families with an alternative to electronics and encouraging family play time.

March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 – Flint Institute of Arts (Flint) – Huntington Bank celebrates the Flint Institute of Arts by providing everyone access free of charge every Saturday.

March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 – Best of Downtown – Walking Tour (Detroit) – On this tour you’ll see all the major developments as well as unique shops, one-of-a-kind restaurants and recently renovated residential options. You’ll also see some of Detroit’s great historical spots and its world renowned architecture. Depending on the tour we will either walk for the entirety or utilize the People Mover, so please dress accordingly.

March 7 – Mommy & Me Hikes (West Bloomfield Parks) – Free first Thursday of every month. Join our Naturalist on a nature discovery and exercise walk. The trail is unpaved so all-terrain strollers are recommended. Indoor activities will be added if it’s too cold. The April hike will be at Marshbank Park! These events are free but preregistration is required.

March 8 – Free Family Movie Night (Canton) – Come out to Connection Church and enjoy a FREE Movie Night! We’ll be watching Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. Doors open at 6:30 and movie begins promptly at 7 pm. Concessions will be sold to help support our MOPS & MOMSnext group.

March 10 – Kids Book Reading & Signing by Local Area Author, Jennifer N. Senjanin (Barnes and Noble, Troy) – Bring your kids and come listen to a wonderful new children’s book series, The Adventures of Sara Beara and Selena Bombeelina, By Jennifer N. Senjanin. The book reading will be followed by a signing and the book is available in-store and online at Barnes and Noble.

March 10 – Spring Forward at the Belle Isle Nature Center (Detroit) – Spring forward into Daylight Saving Time while learning about amphibians at the Belle Isle Nature Center! Activities include frog mask making, leapfrog games and storytelling, as well as the chance to talk with animal care staff about different species of amphibians and our wildlife conservation efforts. All activities are free.

March 10 – 61st Annual Detroit St. Patrick’s Parade (Detroit) – Join the United Irish Societies as we host the 61st Annual Detroit St. Patrick’s Parade, presented by the Ford Fund. This year’s theme is “Corktown: Where Detroit Meets Ireland” and our Grand Marshals are Paul & Agnes Gowdy.

March 16 – Family Fun Day: Celebrate Early Childhood (2/24 Community Church, Brighton) – A fun, free event for ages 0 to 5 and their families. Interactive stage show featuring The Music Lady, who will have your little ones singing, dancing, and laughing. Plus, enjoy hands-on children’s activities, free books, and meet your favorite storybook characters Pete the Cat, Llama Llama and Cookie Mouse!

March 23 – Literacy with the Characters (Trenton Village Theatre) – Free and Fun reading with characters for kids!

March 26 – People & Pooch Hike (West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve) – Join the park Naturalist and fellow dog owners for a guided hike on the trails of the West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve. Stops will be made along the way to see what’s blooming. Please make sure all dogs are leashed (6ft or shorter). This is a FREE program, but pre-registration is required for all participants.
