Free family-friendly June Events

Start summer with a bang! June is packed full of FREE family fun in Wayne County and beyond. I’m almost overwhelmed at all the FREE activities taking place in our area! Be sure to check out this list and make some notes on your calendar!

Free Family-Friendly June Events

June 1 – Touch-A-Truck Day! – (Fresh Thyme, Ypsilanti) Get up close and personal with our Local Heroes and their Safety Vehicles! Featuring the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and a Patrol Vehicle. Plus the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department and their Fire Truck! Fun for the whole family! With live music by Don West, Brats for $1, arts and crafts, Face painting, PLUS a very special visit from Louie the Lightening Bug!

June 1 – Party in the Ville (Northville) – This event is aimed at celebrating ALL THINGS NORTHVILLE! From  businesses, restaurants/bars, services, galleries to the people, Northville is a great town that cherishes community, hard work, and fun times! This event will take place on main street and on the town square. There is no entrance fee, and there will be businesses, food vendors, beer/wine vendors, and live music. 

June 1 – Pinckney Art in the Park 2019 (Pinckney) 

  • This event brings over 15,000 spectators for two days of exciting shopping, entertainment, food and more. Over 100 fine artists and crafters will be on hand to demonstrate their love of art and their one-of-a-kind, unique pieces.
  • The CAP Kids Fair, hosted by LACASA’s Child Abuse Prevention Council, will be located on Livingston Street, near the playground, and will offer information on child safety and development as well as area programs and services for families. The Kids Fair will be open both Saturday and Sunday with exhibits from local health and human service agencies, plus a multitude of fun activities, free arts and crafts for kids.
  • Kids are invited to participate in a free scavenger hunt in conjunction with The CAP Kid’s Fair and participating local non-profits. Entry forms will be available at the CAP Kid’s Fair booth and at the Chamber event information booth near the gazebo.

June 1 – Chalk of the Town (Lansing) – Get ready for a day of vibrant art and fun in the street of Old Town! Beginning in the morning, artists will take to the streets creating masterpieces on their assigned piece of sidewalk using chalk only. The creations will be completed by the afternoon when the judging will commence. Visitors will be allowed to vote for the People’s Choice winner all day. Families are also welcome to participate in the kid’s sidewalk art area.

June 1 – Fifth Annual Chalk the Walk (Flat Rock)- Chalk the Walk is where children of all ages along and their families along with friends can draw on the walkway at the HuRoc Park in downtown Flat Rock.

June 1 – Livingston Conservation and Sports Association ‎Kids Day 2019 (Brighton) – Children can experience outdoor sports (fishing, archery, shooting) and demonstrations in a safe and supervised environment.

June 1 – Summer Reading Kick-Off! (Howell) – Get ready for summer and sign up for the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge! Enjoy fun hands-on activities from Noon to 1:00 pm and enjoy a family concert with Gemini beginning at 1:00 pm. Outdoor event (may move inside depending on weather).

June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 – FREE Day at the Flint Institute of Art (Flint) -Every Saturday is free thanks to Huntington.

June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 – Saturday in the Park (Hines Drive, Westland) – Every Saturday May-September 28 from 9:00 a.m – 3:30 p.m. Six miles of Hines Drive will be closed from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive for the public of all ages to enjoy running, walking, skating or cycling safely on a traffic free road.

June 6 – Mommy & Me Hikes (West Bloomfield Township) – Join a Naturalist on a nature discovery and exercise walk. The trail is unpaved so all-terrain strollers are recommended. Indoor activities will be added if needed due to weather. 

June 7-9 – Flat Rock Summer Blast (Flatrock) – The 2019 Flat Rock Summer Blast will take place June 7 – 9th at the beautiful Huroc Park, located along the Huron River in downtown Flat Rock. This years festival will feature three days of family fun and entertainment – including fireworks, carnival rides, Shell Camino Monster Truck rides & shows, incredible live entertainment, large beer tent and great food! June 8 – Livonia Passport to Safety (Livonia) – A day of learning about safety in a fun, family setting. The event includes, food, entertainment, and 10 safety stations geared toward kids ages 3-10.

June 8 – Lids for Kids/Police Open House (Berkley) – Annual Lids for Kids event is approaching! There will be a police open house to show you some of the tools used in law enforcement. Free bike helmets will be given to all children that attend. Attractions will include a dunk tank and moon bounces. And back by popular demand, there will be a OAKLAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HELICOPTER!!!!!!! Weather permitting, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter will be landing in the department of safety parking lot and a pilot will be available to answer questions and show people around the aircraft.

June 8 – Fishing Derby 2019 (Northville) – All kids ages 12 and younger are welcome to have some fishing fun with a casting contest and free fishing! All anglers need to bring their own equipment and bait. Registration starts at 7:30 AM and fishing starts at 8:00 AM. Prizes will be awarded at 10:30 AM for shortest, longest, heaviest and lightest fish.

June 8 – Fishing with the Fellas!– (Lower Huron Metropark, Belleville) – Fathers, Sons, Grandfathers, and Uncles are invited to enjoy a Saturday morning of fun, fishing, and fellowship! Moms are encouraged to bring their sons! The morning will begin with prayer followed by a fishing experience that is sure to create lasting memories. There will be instructions in fishing basics: baiting, casting, catching and releasing. Bring your own fishing pole or use one of ours. Bait will be provided. Prizes will be awarded to the person who catches the first, largest and most fish. Anyone 17 and older will need to have an active 2019 fishing license. A 24-hour license is $10.00 and can be purchased at Walmart, Dunham’s or Meijer. There is a $10.00 entry fee into the park. This event is FREE and OPEN to all males! Pre-Registration is Mandatory. Register no later than June 1. Fishing will start at 8 AM. Hot Dogs, chips and water will be provided!

June 14 – 3rd Annual GriveWell Kite Festival (Ann Arbor) – The festival will feature professional kite fliers entertaining the crowd with large kites dancing through the sky to music, families building and decorating kites, and games and activities for children. With support from our sponsors, GrieveWell is proud to offer a day to celebrate life, honor the memory of friends and family who have passed, and to be a part of the movement to build a community of hope and healing. June 14, 15, 16 – Canton Liberty Fest (Canton) – Three action-packed days of fun for the whole family in beautiful Heritage Park. Carnival rides, entertainment, midway games, fireworks, vendors, and more. Some fees will apply.

June 14 & 15 – Riverview Summerfest (Riverview) – The Riverview Summerfest will be held at Young Patriots Park. The Summerfest will feature fireworks, carnival, midway, beer tent, bands, fishing derby, cardboard boat races, 5K Summit Run, a car show and more!

June 20 – Outdoor movie night, featuring: Boss Baby (Taylor) – Free outdoor movie night, featuring: Boss Baby. Will take place at the Taylor Community Library. 

June 21 – Canton Celebrates Summer Solstice (Canton) – Celebrate the first day of Summer with backyard games, face painting, a DJ, and more! 

June 22 – Rock N Rides (Royal Oak) – Join this celebration of community, family and fun with an 18 ride carnival, a kids stage, the Fifth Avenue block party, live music on the Soaring Eagle & Resort Stage, a zip-line, free arts & crafts, food trailers and more! The festival is free all day Thursday, June 20 and on Friday, June 21 until 5pm. After that, the price is $5 and is good for the entire weekend. A portion of the proceeds benefits our local nonprofit partners.

June 22 – TONS O’ Trucks (Macomb) – This popular 20th Annual event is for EVERYONE of ALL ages! ‘Tons O Trucks’ has evolved over the years, to include much more than a parking lot of AWESOME VEHICLES!! Thanks to their AMAZING Sponsors they also have; CRAFTS, FARM ANIMALS, INFLATABLES, TRAIN RIDES, FACE PAINTING, MUSIC, CHARACTERS, TEA PARTY CASTLE PRINCESS, GAMES, BOWLING, TUMBLING, ROBOTS, FREE KONA ICE/ FROZEN CUSTARD / POPCORN, GIVEAWAYS just to name a few of the other features & entertainment! The ‘Detroit Institute of Arts, will be joining this year with “DIA AWAY”!! Everything at this event is FREE with the exception of concessions from Jet’s Pizza & the BIG BOY Food Truck!

June 22 – Family Fitness & Safety Day (Dearborn Heights) – Celebrate Family Fitness & Safety Day in Dearborn Heights! All ages are invited to enjoy games, the bounce house, 4 bike raffles, Zee the Cook cooking demos, fire trucks, big rigs, Zumba, Yoga, Karate board breaking, Senior Stretching and much more! Spider Man will be joining and looking for young superheroes of safety from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. This is a FREE event! Come explore and participate in keeping active and staying healthy at different booths! Event is located at Richard A. Young Recreation Center in Dearborn Heights and runs from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.! Make sure to RSVP.

June 22 – WCSO Community Open House (Ann Arbor) – Lots of great activities for the family to enjoy! There will be a story-time with Sheriff Clayton, tours of the Hall of History, bounce house & obstacle course, light refreshments and more!

June 27 – WOW Thrilling Thursdays (Detroit)– The last Thursday of each month from 6-8 p.m. is free at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center. FREE programs, fun and games around a specific topic, plus enjoy all the exhibits at the Outdoor Adventure Center!

June 27 – FREE Outdoor Movies at City Square (Warren) – Grab a blanket or chairs to see Ralph Breaks the Internet, 8 – 9:30 pm. 

June 28, 29, 30 – Trenton Summer Festival (Trenton) – Entertainment, rides, food, Kid’s Corner, crafters, and more. Some fees will apply.

June 29 – Mud Day (West Bloomfield) – Playing with mud is good for your health! Celebrate International Mud Day as you GET DIRTY! Go for a splash in the mud pit, paint works of art with mud, make mud animal tracks and make mud pies with ingredients from the sensory garden. Discover why mud is important for animals and plants.  Wear clothes you can get really dirty, or you could wear a bathing suit! A change of clothes is suggested. Pre-registration is required.
