Favorite Mexican Restaurants in Metro Detroit
Mexican foods are my favorite! In fact, I could eat Mexican more than once a week. So recently, I polled my Facebook friends about their favorite Mexican Restaurants in Metro Detroit and one thing became quite clear…we LOVE our Mexican food!
You will find many of our favorite restaurants are located in downtown Detroit. That is because there is a community in Southwest Detroit called Mexicantown. Detroit’s Mexican population began settling in Mexicantown in the 1940s, which meant that Mexican restaurants began popping up in the area. One of the oldest Mexicantown Restaurants on our list is Los Galanes which opened in 1967. Another local favorite is Mexican Fiesta which opened its first location in 1962.
If you are looking for a Mexican Restaurant, check out the list below. I know my husband and I will be eating at many of these in the near future!

Xochi’s (Detroit) is indeed tasty, I’d like to get back to Mexicantown at some point and go there again. I think I said on your FB post that Border Cantina was in Northville but looks like Novi from here, oops. I think it’s on the border (no pun intended! lol).
Cute!
Great list! Every so often I get a Mexican Fiesta craving. I love the coleslaw and the hot chips. I also really like Frida Mexican Cuisine in Dearborn. The sangria there is the bomb. Speaking of Dearborn, Los Galanes Taqueria, which opened last year on Michigan Avenue, is a nice option for quick-service Mexican food for Westsiders who don’t want to make the drive to Detroit for the original in Mexicantown. But if you are dining in Mexicantown, stop by La Gloria Bakery for dessert!
Thank you for all the tips!
Ooh, yum! Mexican food is my weakness – I live for it! I love El Nibble Nook (you mentioned it) and really need to go there again now! I would love to check out some of the others you listed, too and I’m going to use this as a checklist! 🙂
I can’t wait to try El Nibble!
We love Mexican, so I’ll have to keep this handy for when we’re down in the Detroit area. We’ve yet to find an awesome place up near us in Burton.
Great list! I love Mexican food because they always have such fantastic vegetarian options. It makes it really easy for me to eat out.
I have not heard of a few of these. Will have to check them out. We really enjoy Manuels in Allen Park. It’s small but delicious.
I love Mexican food–I can eat it daily! We stopped at a Mexican restaurant in Greek Town a few weeks ago, but I’m not sure the name. Their salsa was fab!
I love going to mexican town for authentic mexican food. so delicious!
